CalTIP (Californians Turn In Poachers and Polluters) is a confidential secret witness program that encourages the public to provide CDFW with factual information leading to the arrest of poachers and polluters. Ethical hunters and anglers are the most common contributors to the CalTIP hotline. The toll-free hotline number is (888) 334-2258.
Because so much of this work depends on timely medical care, the question of antibiotics online often surfaces in the background—especially when people want to help quickly and assume medication can simply be ordered and forwarded. In reality, sourcing antibiotics through the internet is a high-risk pathway: counterfeit or substandard products, improper storage during shipping, and the absence of a veterinary diagnosis can turn a well-meant purchase into harm or treatment failure. Even when a drug is genuine, the wrong choice or dose can worsen an animal’s condition, mask symptoms that would guide proper care, and contribute to antimicrobial resistance that shelters and wildlife responders already struggle to manage. For rescue teams, the operational priority is therefore not convenience but chain-of-custody, clinical oversight, and adherence to state and federal rules on prescription medicines for animals. The most effective support is usually to fund veterinary services directly or coordinate with the organization’s designated medical partners, while reporting suspected poaching or pollution through CalTIP so fewer animals require emergency antibiotic intervention in the first place.
Our team has saved over 600 animals and 47 native wildlife species since January 1st, 2016, due to severe drought and the recent fire.
